They podcast it as episode 24 I believe. But it hasn't been in print yet...

Doc

Re: Gettin’ Paid

Indeed. If a writer's not careful they can sell all their rights to a work for a song.

You should totally start shopping it. What is it?

Re: Gettin’ Paid

Interesting conversation. I find it interesting that the public seems to think that ideas have great value, but the writing, the realization of those ideas, is often sold so very, very cheaply.

Also made me realize that I have only one completed work right now. It has been podcast, but I haven't really thought about shopping it around to sell it...

Doc

Re: Free Beer!

well said! and the same applies in my field of music!

Re: Twenty Solid Beers

Hey Beq! I was really happy that I got a chance to meet you and so many others who I follow and listen to on a regular basis. It's true that there are too many things to choose from, and though I would have loved to hit every panel and reading, I would have missed out on some great conversations that sprang up unexpectedly. I'm definitely making plans for next year (#45) and I hope I'll get to see you there.

Re: Interview with Jenny Hudock

Thanks again for taking time out of your busy schedule to interview me, Scott! When it comes to my own podcasting, I suppose my ultimate goal is to simply build up an audience. It's certainly not the endgame. And in the case of what I'm about to podcast, it's a work that has already seen publication once, and I reacquired the rights to it. "First publication" isn't an issue. But I have thought a lot about whether to go ahead with audio versions of things that I think may be more commercially viable.

I think I'll have to take it on a case-by-case basis. I'll podcast if I think it works for that story, and if I feel like I've exhausted other options. I truly believe in the model, but I also recognize that the model can't work unless you've got a publishing partner willing to take the plunge with you.

Re: Forging Ahead

The question is not what you want to do with it. The question is can you get more joy out of seeing it in print, giving it away, sticking it a drawer. What brings you the most joy, or if it is what you really want, what brings you the most money if that equates to joy. I should say, if being able to do it for a living is what brings you the most joy..." Not that money equates to joy.

Re: Forging Ahead

You're welcome Jeff.

Doing it for the joy it brings you should indeed be thing one.
